Energy Storage Plants Planning Method for Improving Security of Multi-infeed Receiving-end System

  • The AC/DC interaction in multi-infeed receiving-end system is a significant concern, as it poses the risk of simultaneous commutation failure. At the same time, the receiving-end system, characterized by low-inertia, may experience rapid frequency decline after HVDC blocking fault and may induce low frequency load shedding accident. Energy storage system enables four-quadrant operation of active active and reactive power, ensuring rapid response that promotes the safe and stable operation of the power grid. Therefore, a bi-level multi-objective planning model of energy storage plants was proposed to improve the security of the receiving-end system. For the outer layer, both location and capacity planning for the energy storage plants were carried out with the goal of reducing the interaction between HVDC while considering the economy. The optimal scheduling model was constructed in the inner layer by using the emergency power support capability of energy storage system, DC, as well as the pumped storage control, taking the frequency security constraint into account. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-Ⅱ) combined with solver was employed to solve the model. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed programming model was verified by an improved IEEE-39 system.
