Review of Peak Regulation for Power System With a High Penetration of Nuclear Power

  • For a long time, the nuclear power unit has been operating in a base-load mode in the power system. With the implementation of the national clean energy policy and the rapid development and operation of the third-generation pressurized water reactor technology, nuclear power plants' participation in peak regulation has become an inevitable trend in the provinces with high penetration nuclear power, such as Fujian. An overview of the feasibility of PWR nuclear power plants' participation in peak regulation was providesed and the typical operation modes and daily load-tracking modes of different types of units was analyzesed. Then the recommendations for peak regulation approaches’ combinations under different environments was made and energy structures considering safety, economy, and low-carbon. In addition, current problems about nuclear power plants’ participation in peak regulation and presents their development directions was discussesed.
