An Overview on Hydrogen Energy Storage and Transportation Technology and Its Typical Application in Power System

  • Hydrogen energy is one of the most potential energy sources in the 21st century. The development of hydrogen energy utilization not only can solve the problem of accommodation and storage of renewable energy source, but also can contribute to ensure the energy security of China and to promote the realization of the goal of carbon neutrality. Due to special physical property of hydrogen such as low density and high energy density and so on, the safe and high efficient storage and transportation of hydrogen as well as its application technology are the core of large scale development of hydrogen energy industry. In allusion to key technology for storage and transportation of hydrogen and its application in power industry, the significance and the background of the development of hydrogen energy utilization were presented, and the policy related to hydrogen storage and transportation in China and the application of hydrogen energy in power industry were sorted out and explained. The principle of existing mainstream hydrogen storage and transportation technologies, such as high pressure gaseous state storage and transportation, low temperature liquid state storage and transportation, organic liquid state storage and transportation, the storage and transportation of metal hydride were organizes into folders and contrasted and economic analyses for these technologies were conducted. The application of hydrogen energy in power industry, including hydrogen fuel cell power generation and hydrogen gas turbine generation technology, were analyzed. Four suggestions for hydrogen storage and transportation technology and safe and efficient hydrogen power generation technology in China were proposed to provide references for domestic industrial layout of hydrogen energy industry and reducing full life circle application cost of hydrogen energy.
