Quantitative Method of Wind Power Peak Shaving Cost Based on Mean Output

  • With the rapid development of large-scale wind power, the demand for peak shaving service in power system and the cost of peak shaving service are increasing. Reasonable calculation of peak shaving service cost caused by wind power is the premise for encouraging conventional units to provide peak shaving service. To this end, a quantitative method for calculating peak shaving cost caused by wind power which is called wind power mean output reference method is proposed. Firstly, the wind power output in a certain time period is evenly distributed to each dispatching period for obtaining wind power mean output profile. Then the reference scenarios for peak shaving cost calculation are obtained. Finially, the peak shaving cost in the specific scenarios can be calculated to reveal whether the wind power output curve in specific scenarios have caused additional peak shaving costs to the system. The proposed method is tested on a 5 thermal power units system with a wind farm, and the results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
