Research on Monitoring of Arcing Current During Switching OperationBased on Rogowski Coil

  • When the experiments were performed with switching containing resistance, inductance and capacitance load respectively, the arcing current signals during the switching operation are measured to monitor the opening and closing process by using of current transducer based on Rogowski coil with a bandwidth from 3 Hz to 7.54 MHz. Under the opening condition, post arc currents are used to describe the gap phase with zero value of current. Under the closing condition, both prestrike arc and bounce arc are used to indicate parameter of the contacting surface state. The test results show that the current transducer can acquire the arc current signal effectively, and has good dynamic and static characteristics, which makes it possible to apply this method to online monitoring of the opening and closing process of switch.
