Research on the Application of NaS Battery Energy Storage System

  • The structure, the working principle and the parameter characteristics of sodium sulfur (NaS) battery are introduced in this paper. Then the application type and status of NaS battery are analyzed. The statistics analysis on the application of load leveling, uninterrupted power supply and emergency power supply are analyzed. Its cost composition and economic benefits are shown by taking the first megawatt class Energy Storage System(ESS) in USA as an example. In addition, the design scheme and key technical analysis of a typical NaS battery ESS are proposed. The power conversion system, the battery management system and the monitoring system are introduced in detail. In the end, domestic demand of electrical energy storage and the application foreground of NaS battery after industrialization are presented based on the expectation of the State Grid for new energy in 2010.
