Effect of Super hydrophobic Coating of Wire on Anti icing

  • Accidents, such as lines disconnection, tower collapse etc., may be caused by icing of transmission lines which seriously threaten the safety and reliability of transmission network. It has great significance to find methods for anti icing. In this paper, by using the method of chemical etching and coating with low surface energy materials, super hydrophobic coating on the aluminum wire is used to study its influence on ice growth, and experiments were done in Icing Simulation Laboratory. The experiment phenomena shows that the super hydrophobic coating can increase water Contact Angle (CA) and reduce the force between the ice and the wire. In some degree, it can inhibit and mitigate the formation and growth of ice on aluminum wires.
