A Review on Hybrid HVDC System

  • Hybrid HVDC is a novel topology which combines advantages of both current source converter (CSC) and the voltage source converter (VSC). After a brief introduction of the basic structure and technical characteristics of CSC and VSC, the technical characteristics, control strategy, application scenarios, and research progress of the hybrid two-terminal, hybrid MTDC, hybrid MIDC, hybrid bipolar HVDC and the mixed converter are represented separately. In the end, the advantages and disadvantages of the hybrid HVDC is summarized, and the research and development direction of hybrid HVDC are predicted. The research results and introduction of project application demonstrate that the hybrid HVDC is a unique technology, which has a bright application prospect.
