Optimizing Operation of Integrated Electrical and Gas Network with Power-to-gas Process

  • Because the power output of renewable sources is intermittent, Power-to-Gas(P2G) technology is used to convert short-term excess electrical energy into gas fuel, which can be stored, transported, and reutilized through existing natural gas network, and is regarded as new way to absorb large-scale renewable energy. On the other hand, application of P2G technology may lead to further integrating power system and natural gas network, and promote establishing futurereliable, clean, economic, and efficient energy system. In this paper, by comprehensively considering such constraints as power flow balance of system operation, the limitation of energy conversion and the requirements of storage capacity of natural gas pipelines, the optimized operation of integrated electrical and gas network with P2G processis proposed with the objective of improving the utilization of renewable energy and the economics of system operation. In the end, a case study is carried out to validate the proposed model, and the impact of P2G process on the operation of integrated power-gas system is analyzed, which shows its potential on improving the absorptive ability of renewable energy.
